FWIW the small frame SP101 357mag .....love the gun but it has more recoil than any of my other pistols including 44mags and 45apcs |

Re: Laser Sights for a Ruger 44 Mag?
Last year I stalked a buck parallel to a dirt row. I figured he would come out onto the road about 25yrds down. I laid myself on the road and pointed my Marlin lever 44mag with a red dot sight where I thought that he'd end up. I kept looking through the red dot and lifting my head up out of the gun site - up and down up and down until I spotted the buck while my head was up. Needless to say once I went down to look through the red dot sight I couldn't see the red dot and couldn't see the buck. I guess the heat of the hunt got to me and it took too much time to change site contexts. The buck took off and I took off the red dot site.
FWIW, I am a complete newbee with regards to deer hunting so YMMV. Next year I am sticking to open sites. BTW, yesterday I saw an episode of the Outdoor Channel's Best Defense TV show. They were talking to one of the instructors at the Blackwater Training Facility. Apparently, for their non-sniper rifle training their instructors only use open sites on their ARs. It must mean something that they do this. oopps! I was thinking that the original post was referencing the Ruger 44mag carbine rifle. My mistake! |

That, and they don't blink out, go dim, break...or fail due to lack of resupply. |

I use a "one ragged hole" iron sight on my Ruger .454:
